In the main I could not do otherwise than to follow the course over which I have passed. To begin with I turned to the Lord when only fifteen. Being released from parental duties I determined to follow a long- felt desire to obtains an education. After ten yeans I had in a measure satisfied my ambition, having spent considerable of this time in earning the means to defray my expenses in sehool^tand thus I was able to finish school without debt. Soon after marriage we were in 1891 ЗЬшяя asked to join a group going to Japan as missionaries. We accepted the invitation, I have never regretted this decision. In 1907 It seemed necessary to send my wife and three children back to America for the sake of their education. At this time one of my close friends advised that I, too, come home to stay. For this I was criticised and accused of neglect. But as I look back over it, I do not think that I would act otherwise if it could be repeated. In 1941 ^was warned by the American government to leave Japan, and the Japanese brethren urged me to do it. I left on the last boat that has left Japan direct for the United States. Having spent approximately 50 years in service to the Japanese people I feel that my derm of service to them is completed.
