The Graphic
The Graphic has been Pepperdine's primary student newspaper since the school's founding in 1937, making it the university’s oldest student organization. The name was chosen by students because of the prominence of the letters “GPC,” the initials of George Pepperdine College. In 1972, the paper moved from Pepperdine’s original campus in South Los Angeles to the brand new Malibu campus, where weekly publication continues to this day. In addition to campus news, the Graphic covers the City of Malibu, and offers student perspectives on national and cultural issues. The paper has won numerous awards over the years, and is a member of the Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame. This collection is full-text searchable, providing an entry point into Pepperdine’s history, as well as the history of Los Angeles and Malibu. It also provides insight into the student experience, a perspective that can be difficult to find in archival collections.
From 1972 to 1976, a second student newspaper called Inner View was published at the Los Angeles campus. Additional student publications—including the features magazine published by Graphic Media and originally called Oasis before being retitled Currents Magazine—can be found in the Pepperdine Publications collection.
Some collections or materials contain historical images or content which are products of their particular times, and may contain offensive language or negative stereotypes. These materials are presented as part of the historical record and the history of Pepperdine University. Pepperdine does not endorse the content of these historical collections but, rather, remains committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community where students are strengthened for lives of purpose, service, and leadership.
